The Force for Health® Project activates multiple Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters with unique challenge called Advance the Dream to kick off National Minority Health Month

Note from the Force for Health® Network - The development of this program has been underway for a bit, with the guidance and direction of Joshua Williams, Jr. National Program Director, based out of LA and FL, Southwestern Region and Dr. Robert Gillio, Force for Health Program Founder.

Now, with COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity to convene, collaborate and collectively communicate our  important health, science and civics based information directly into our communities by our Advance the DREAM TEAMS makes this EXPONENTIALLY much more crucial.

The time to activate and impact is NOW, especially across our key initial states and we look forward to helping and serving where we can.

What is Advance the DREAM Project?

This is a new, national health and civics challenge, designed and launched in collaboration with select Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters and leaders to better understand the current and future state of health for our African American men, our families and our communities and carry on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.   The project will challenge participants to #AdvancetheDream by becoming better #ForceforHealth Ambassadors...for themselves first, so they can better care for their families and friends and better serve their communities, in an effort to truly shape the future towards more equitable, healthier and happier communities for all.

Members of the Virtual #AdvancetheDream TEAMS agree to participate and compete in a spring 2020 ADVANCE the TEAM Challenge in their own communities to help launch a state, regional and national challenge that will turn into a sustainable and fun way to compete and fundraise for the years to come.

This is a BETA Challenge and we are eager to hear get feedback from the Alpha TEAMS throughout this 7 week challenge. Their feedback will help us improve the experience, so that we will be able to grow this into a national and global competition as early as the fall of 2020.

Generally, there are three main components:

  • Weekly Zooms - 11:00 am PST - Alpha Phit Fridays to Advance the DREAM and set challenges for the week
  • Sponsored Virtual Step Challenge - All participating Alpha TEAM members will be eligible for a Virtual Health and Step Challenge, powered by the Force for Health Network, and will be working with their State TEAM Leaders to active and onboard.
  • Learn IT, Live IT, Share IT, Earn IT Weekly Health and Civics Impact Challenges- These will be announced on the weekly Zoom calls, and will form the foundation of some friendly state to state competition over the course of the next 7 weeks that we will celebrate in May.  These impact challenges and training/development opportunities will include:

Let's have the courage to realize that in our moments of darkness..."there is always light if only we are brave enough to see it, if only we are brave enough to be it." Its time, young people, to "merge mercy with might, and might with right" and do the right thing to help us show compassion for all, and protect each other leading with the light of our example to wear the mask, get the shot, feed the hungry, and be kind as we come out of this challenge by making it the opportunity to create a new movement..
